Cementary and Mortuary under heavy Police surveillance in Lagos

Lagos state police command has ordered a high level surveillance on all morgue and cemetery in the state due to the activities of politicians and ritualist as election draws near.

Sunday Independent Observred around various cemeteries and mortuaries in the last one week showed that some strange faces were seen loitering around this places.
At Atan cemetery in Yaba, some of these strange faces, who were later identified as undercover detectives from Sabo police station, were spotted during odd hours of the morning and evening, either driving their bike or loitering around streets close to the cemetery.

A grave digger at the cemetery said that during elections period, security agents do infiltrate the cemetery to frustrate attempts by some of the workers to connive with ritualists and exhume the death bodies, which are in turn sold to ritualists.
Jude Aisuenbeogun, Manager of Atan Cemetery, however said that the facility, which was established in 1868 by the British government, has records of all dead persons buried there.
But, a senior police officer at the command headquarters in Ikeja, disclosed that it is not only during elections time that detectives patrol the place, saying that ritualists may or may not be politicians.
He stated that there are people who use human body parts for rituals in order to become wealthy.
However, further observations around Ikoyi, Mushin, Agege cemeteries also showed the presence of detectives around these areas.
At the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, apart from the private security guards stationed at virtually all the departments and sections around the hospital, there was an increased presence of uniform and plain-clothes police officers within the premises of the hospital.
Kenneth Nwosu, Lagos police image maker, reacting to the invasion of cemeteries and mortuaries in Lagos by police detectives, said the action was in line with the efforts of the command to ensure that Lagos is kept safe from the unpatriotic and criminal activities of robbers, ritualists, hired killers, kidnappers, robbers, political thugs, among others.
