Poll in Nigeria shows 87% oppose to gay right
A recent poll conducted in Nigeria shows that 87% of citizens support the ban on same sex relationship/marriage.
According to BBC the number is now lower that five years ago when the figure was 96%,gay activist who conducted the polls begin to suggest that peoples attitude is beginning to change.
Nigeria is a deeply religious country,Christians and Muslims,and anti-gay laws are tightly in place.14 years imprisonment is the punishment for such an offence.
In the poll conducted by gay right activist, say, that only about 1 in 6 people say that they know someone who is openly gay.
About 30% of telephone poll respondents said gay, lesbian and bisexual people should have access to public services such as education and healthcare
Gay activists, including the Bisi Alimi Foundation, see this as progress, our correspondent says.They believe thing are turning in their favour.
