Why Guinness Nigeria Plc Was Fined N1 Billion



The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control,NAFDAC has imposed a fine of N1 billion on Guinness Nigeria Plc for its failure to adhere to recommended manufacturing practice procedure and set standards.
According to a source revelation from the Enforcement department of the Agency, a visit to the company factory in Ikeja,Lagos exposed shocking discovery,

The team wrote an unsatisfactory report on how raw material were been handled and how the materials were also stored. “The unhygienic storage condition of the raw materials was a major source of worry for the agency,” the source said.
The report revealed that  the raw materials been used were exposed to rodent and some expired materials were discovered to have been revalidated.
Following the discovery a letter to that effect was sent to Guinness,NAFDAC is yet to make official statement to that effect but the source who spoke to news men said the N1billion Administrative  charge may just be basic action by NAFDAC

“Our team visited Guinness and the reported findings were true. The agency is, however, going to make a public statement to this effect at the appropriate time, as the management is still studying the reports submitted by the team,” the source said.
But In responds,The Managing Director of Guinness,Peter Ndegwa said the said raw materials store is not a production facility and that “we are engaging National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, for clarifications and resolution of the issues.”
