
The UK based human right body Amnesty International on Tuesday opened an office in Nigeria to Commence investigation of human right abuses by the Nigerian military fighting Boko Haram,abuses from oil pollution,and force eviction of civilians by the military.
“From the relatives of the thousands killed and missing in northeast Nigeria to the thousands of villagers in the Niger Delta who cannot plant crops or drink clean water because of oil pollution, Amnesty International will stand in solidarity with all the people in Nigeria who face human rights violations and abuses,” said the director of the office in Abuja, the capital, veteran Nigerian career diplomat M.K. Ibrahim.
Ibrahim told AP that the Buhari's Government invited Amnesty International into the country after it's reports accused Nigerian Military of killing about 800 civilian detainees by shooting.naming five senior officers of the military to be prosecuted for war crime.
