National Assembly Hit with financial problem
The National Assembly is cash stripped, the assembly is unable to meet its financial obligation such as payment of staff ,Lawmaker, and aide salaries
Legislator have not been paid February Salary, their January salaries was paid middle of February which was likely borrowed from the Bank.
The most serious among these problem is the inability of the management to pay the quarterly allocation which should have been paid in January, most of the assembly members depends on it to fund their campaign which is been seen as a punishment from responsible Authority.
The Leadership of NASS met with the Minister of Finance in January over this Issue where the minster agreed to release only half of the allocation which was turn down according to source present at the meeting held at the Villa, they insisted that since the country is not broke and the money has been appropriated the full amount should be paid
The Assembly leadership and the Minister of finance came to an agreement in their second meeting that the quarterly allocation should be paid in three installment January through March, but that agreement has not been meet, just only one installment has been paid
This has brought untold hardship to staffs of the Assembly, most find it difficult to come to work due to fuel scarcity, maintenance in the complex has suffered since NASS owes a bill of N1 billion to electricity, internet services and other services which has been interrupted.
