Ex Minister of Niger Delta Godsday Orubebe and two others were granted a bail of N50m by High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama, Abuja, yesterday.
Orubebe; Oludare Alaba (Assistant Director); Ephraim Tewolde Zeri (Director of Contracts in Gitto Costruzioni Generali Nigeria Limited); and the company were arraigned on a six-count charge.
The Independent Corrupt Practices an other related offences Commission (ICPC), accused them, among others, of diverting about N2.3 billion meant for compensation of property owners to be affected by the Federal Government’s dualisation project of Section IV of the East-West Road.
Justice Kayode Adeniyi noted that Orubebe served as a minister, saying he was entitled to bail, more so when he is presumed innocent at this stage. He granted the ex-minister bail at N10 million and one surety, who must be a responsible Nigerian, resident in Abuja and must show evidence of regular tax payment.
The judge granted Alaba and Zeri bail at N20 million and one surety each, who are to be residents in Abuja.
