Oil Workers Commence Nationwide Strike Today
This is Just a bad news for this season of celebration for Nigerians,today oil workers under the union banner of (NUPENG) , Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and (PEGASSAN) Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association has commence a nationwide industrial action protesting the failure of the Federal Government to carry out turn around maintenance of the nation's refineries and reduction of pump price of oil product in line with the global slump in crude price.
Both Union said in a joint statement that the strike will affect both Upstream, middle stream, and downstream of oil and Gas operations
The unions said the strike was to make sure the government tackle pipeline vandalism,and large scale oil theft destroying the country's economy
Other reasons include delay in passage of the Petroleum Industrial Bill ( PIB ) poor access to refineries,casualisation and contract staff issues,insecurity in the country,expatriate quota law,these unfair labor practices also include the termination and transfer of two national officer of the union
The Union stressed that the government refused to honor past agreement reached and therefore the strike will not be suspended until there is serious commitment from the government and the affected management and operators
