Election Tribunal Confirms Fayose Victory as Ekiti Governor

A Three men panel Ekiti State Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja yesterday Dec 19th dismissed the petition filed against Governor Fayose by the All Progressive Congress APC and declaring him as  the winner of the Governorship  election held on June 12th  2014

The Petition by the APC alleged the election “witnessed an unprecedented level of rigging, manipulation of voters register and wide spread election malpractices,” as well as queried the legal qualification of Fayose to participate in the process

The Tribunal siad the witness presented by the petitioner could not provide real evidence through their testimonies that there were corrupt practices in elections that violates the provisions of Electoral Act

“The testimonies of these witnesses are unsatisfactory and their inability to give the names of the polling units as well as the names of their agents at those unnamed polling units shows that most of them that gave evidence of these alleged non compliance did not vote at the election as such their testimonies failed to support their claims. None of them gave evidence on the improper accreditation or manipulation of accreditation. The petitioner failed to substantiate the allegation of improper accreditation or non accreditation of voters”, it ruled.

The tribunal rejected many Claim by the petitioner amongst which is the disqualification of Fayose, which the Tribunal says is not within its jurisdiction to preside over pe-election matters, that such Issue are already before Ekiti High Court.

“On the whole, all the issues and reliefs sought have been resolved against the petitioner and the petition is hereby dismissed”, the panel added.
