The Executive Director of a Group the Project Alert on Violence against Women,Mrs Josephine Effrah Chukwuma said that 70 % of those abused are under the age of 18 years
Must of the victims are children and young persons from 155 cases they have documented, and 95% of the perpetrator are people close to the victims such as teachers, religious leader, neighbors, domestic staff and close relatives, she said.
Project Alert has partner with Access bank on school- base awareness campaign to help raise awareness among children and to reduce abuse.
“As an organisation we have had course in the last four years to fight some schools and homes where sexual abuse of children is reported. Project Alert and Access Bank have decided not only to be reactive but proactive.
“We don’t want to sit down and wait for a child or young person to be abused and then take action, but want to raise awareness in schools among students, parents, teachers, non-academic staff and management, to help prevent and reduce the risk of children being sexually abused,” she said.
Sexual violence is bad please.....Save and protect the young
