Former NSA Col Sambo Dasuki told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday that he is not ready for trial until he is granted freedom to enjoy the bail court granted him.
DSS counsel Mr Dipo Okpeseyi informed the court that the prosecution was ready to commence trial, but Dasuki's Lawyer Joseph Dauda objected and told the court that the defence is not ready to go ahead because his client is still in custody and should be granted his freedom to enjoy his constitutional right.
“We cannot be ready for trial until the defendant enjoys his constitutional rights,
“We apply that we should be given time to prepare the defence. The conduct of the prosecution has not enabled him to enjoy his constitutional rights.
“The worst is that for about seven weeks we do not know where he is. Any of us here who proceeds to defend an accused person in this circumstance may lose his license of practice.”Dauda SaidThe prosecution argued that Dasuki is not been held for the case he has in court so that request should be thrown out.
The Judge adjoined the proceeding till March 3 to hear the case if Dasuki will be discharge
