Nineteen year-old Ogunlusi Abass has been sentenced to six months in prison by a magistrate’s court in Osogbo, Osun State, for stealing seven packs of noodles, a tin of milk and one dry fish valued at N500.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that Abass stole the items belonging to one Rasheed Shakirat on January 28, 2017 at Onibueja area of Osogbo.
He said the offence was punishable under Sections 411 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2002.
When his charges were read to him, Ogunlusi knelt down and wept as he pleaded guilty. He said he regretted his actions. His counsel, Mrs. A. Y. Dada, pleaded for leniency since he was remorseful. Magistrate Olusola Aluko in his judgment sentenced him to six months in prison with an option of N10,000 fine. He was however unable to pay the fine and was whisked to the Ilesha Prison to serve his jail term.
