An aide to the newly inaugurated President of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, Mai Fatty, has accused the ousted leader, Yahya Jammeh of stealing over $11m and shipping out luxury vehicles by cargo plane.
Addressing reporters in Dakar, Senegal, Fatty said the new administration met an empty treasury.
He said, “The coffers are largely empty.
“Over two weeks, over 500m dalasi ($11 million) were withdrawn” by Jammeh, adding that “As we take over, the government of The Gambia is in financial distress.”
Fatty also alleged that a Chadian cargo plane had transported luxury goods out of the country on Jammeh’s behalf, in his final hours in power, including unknown number of vehicles.
The former President who is believed to have been flown to Equatorial Guinea on exile, went in company of his wives and mother.He was flown out of Gambia in a private jet reportedly owned by a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu.
