The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) has reached out to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the North East as relief materials worth millions of Naira were yesterday distributed at Bama IDP Camp. The humanitarian gesture this time around was carried out by NAFOWA on behalf of the officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Some months back, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar had appealed to unit commanders to encourage their officers and men to make voluntary contributions to support the IDPs. The initiative, which is meant to complement efforts by the government to alleviate the plight of the IDPs, had generated a heap of relief materials including food items, clothing, books, household needs and cash donation of over N12million handed over to NAFOWA for the use of the IDPs.
Speaking to pressmen at the occasion, the NAFOWA National President, Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar expressed deep appreciations to officers and men of the NAF for their concern for the IDPs and the confidence reposed in the Association to get the items to the affected persons. “This gesture would go a long way to add weight to other interventions by Government and Non-Government Organisations in addressing the plight of the IDPs”, she said.
