At just four months old, Nora Hall suffered a stroke that shut down both sides of her brain and crippled her nervous system. Despite weeks of intensive care, doctors at Minneapolis' Children's Hospital have come to the conclusion that she will not survive her injuries. Her parents Mary and John have taken the painful decision to unplug her life support. The longer she stays alive, the closer she gets to a traumatic and fatal heart attack.
But throughout the devastating few weeks, Mr and Mrs Hall have captured a beautiful show of support from their eight-year-old basset hounds.Mary shared a picture on Facebook of the two dogs with Nora, who is in a medically-induced coma, saying she can sense they are 'stressed and sad'.
Thanks to the leniency of their doctors, the family has been allowed to keep the dogs in the room with Nora, dwarfing her tiny little body.On Friday, the couple posted their final update on Facebook, saying they would be removing Nora's life support after the weekend.
Mary added they had to decide whether to give the dogs to her brother 'in case they get more stressed seeing everyone upset, or if I should let them stay in the room for when she passes, so they aren't left wondering where she is when we go home.'
Hundreds of people responded saying to let the dogs stay with Nora for her final few moments.
The response inspired her to keep them in the ward as support for Nora, and for them.
