Police teargassed Protesting Women in Rivers State

  

women of the All Progressive Congress who took to the street protesting Rivers State elections were tear gassed by the police,many according to reports are injured and some receiving treatment in Hospital
The protest that came 24 hours after the election, was led by the commissioner for women affairs Mrs. Joeba West, member of the House of Assembly, Mrs. Vikki Nyeche, and a former Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council, Mrs. Maureen Tamuno.

The women called for rescheduling of the elections and the transfer of the Resident electoral commissioner (REC) Dame Gasali Khan,accused her of siding with PDP

The women were armed with Placard with slogan such :“Rivers REC of INEC must go”; “No result sheets in Rivers State”; “Prof. Jega, please we want to vote in Rivers”; “Women say no to rigging”; “INEC in Rivers State is PDP”, 
They were asked to choose a representative among them to present their grievance but refused,instead advanced toward INEC building,the police barricaded the road,with more resistance from the women the police fired canister of teargas at them,which lead to confusion and the protester running for safety.
