Us,Eu Condemn Morsi death sentence
The European Union and the U.S has condemn the death sentence pass on the former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and 100 others for their role in 2011 jail break,during the Arab spring that toppled Mubarak.The court on Saturday delivered a death sentenced on him and others
EU top diplomat Federica Mogherini said “The court decision to seek the death penalty… was taken at the end of a mass trial that was not in line with Egypt’s obligations under international law,”
He added that defendant should be granted right to fair trial and Independent investigation,he said the EU beleive that the sentence will be overturned during appeal.
The US in a statement expressed deep concern about the vedict
“We have consistently spoken out against the practice of mass trials and sentences, which are conducted in a manner that is inconsistent with Egypt’s international obligations and the rule of law,” an unnamed state department official said on Sunday.
“We continue to stress the need for due process and individualised judicial processes for all Egyptians in the interests of justice.”
